See you on the mats!
This week we celebrate 11 years as a dojo. And it happens to coincide with our recent move to a new space which we are cohabitating with Denver Aikikai and Denver Ki Aikido. Our new address is:
1195 S Lipan St, Denver, CO 80223
The entrance to the dojo is behind the building, so park on Arizona street and you're right there. Our class schedule remains mostly unchanged except for Monday which will be the same time slots as Friday: 5-6 open-hand, and 6-7pm weapons.
We are considering the possibility of an all weapons practice once a month on Saturdays for students interested in refining their knowledge of Iwama aiki-ken and aiki-jo.
We're looking forward to our new venture and hope to see you on the mat soon!
Tyffany and I will be in San Leandro attending the 40th anniversary of Hendricks Shihan's dojo for the week of Feb 19-26.
There will be class on Saturday, 2/24 taught by CJ.
We will be back to our regular schedule Friday, March 1st.
Hope to see everyone on the mat when we get back!
- Charles
There will be no class this Saturday, 12/2 at Kinjo Dojo. We will be attending the Michael Friedl Shihan seminar at Denver Aikido.
Always check the calendar for schedule changes, I update that first before even announcing on here or other social media outlets.
Holiday Schedule 2023:
January 2024:
Join us November 3-5th for our 2023 Colorado Seminar with Patricia Hendricks Shihan!
Hendricks Shihan will return to Colorado for a 2 day seminar on December 3-4th, 2022. Details and Registration info/tickets.
And we're back!
This weekend we will move mats back into the pilates studio and our first post-pandemic class will be Monday, 6/14 from 7:30 to 8:30.
For the foreseeable future we will have classes Monday and Fridays (adults: 6:15-7:30) at the studio/dojo, in addition to weapons at Memorial Park in Arvada (Sundays from 1-2pm weather permitting - text the dojo at 720-588-DOJO (3656) to let us know you're coming and/or to confirm we're having practice).
As always, the dojo schedule is online here:
https://aikido.kinjo-dojo.org/p/location.html
Vaccination policy: be vaccinated. We won't ask for proof/cards/nasal swabs but if you're going to train a martial art in close proximity to other people be considerate. We don't want your COVID cooties.
What else? I guess we'll see you on the mat!
- Charles and Tyffany
Better late than never! Here are the pictures from our seminar in June 2017 with Pat Hendricks shihan.
Practicing aikido for self defense is like exercising to lose weight: for all its benefits, the last is the reason you started in the first place. It's not just aikido. Without stress-testing in real-world scenarios, many, if not most martial arts fall into the trap of narrowing their focus to a specific set of techniques for a specific set of attacks. The Real World is random, chaotic, and dangerous. The dojo is safe and controlled with a set of rules to follow. As a result, those of us who practice martial arts in the dojo might find ourselves ill-equipped to handle situations outside.
Find what works for you and devote yourself to achieve mastery, but don't be afraid to look outside your style and see what else is there.
